For over three hundred years Odessa has remained one of the most beautiful cities in all of the Ukraine. Odessa originally started out as an ancient Greek port. After being conquered and retaken by a variety of different nations it was finally won by the Russians at the end of the 18th century. If nightlife isn't what you're looking for then there's always the numerous museums and historical monuments to enjoy. With its rich history, Odessa has been host to some of the most important historical events to take place in Russia. Visitors can see the somber memorial to the Battleship Potemkin uprising, take a walk down the peaceful Tolstogo Street, enjoy a ballet at the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater, or see the beautiful Tolstoy and Vorontsov Palaces. For the really adventurous there is also the option of touring the endless catacombs that weave in and out of the city's landscape. One can also visit the famous Seventh-Kilometer Market, which is one of the biggest in all of Europe.
