The capital city of Moldova is located deep within the center of the country and stands as one of the most important industrial and transportation hubs of the area. Chisinau is a beautiful city that is considered to have the highest proportion of green spaces of any major city in all of Europe. The name "Chisinau" is thought to come from the old Romanian word "chisla", which means Spring. This comes from the fact that the city was originally settled around a large spring, which exists to this day on the corner of Pushkin and Albisoara Street. The city lies on the river Bic and enjoys a Continental Climate characterized by hot dry summers and cold windy winters.

Situated near the Gates of the City, visitors can see the amazing Botanica Park. The Park is considered to be the largest of its kind and helps give Chisinau its reputation as one of the greenest cities in the country. There are also numerous landmarks for visitors to enjoy such as the Eternitate Memorial Complex, a giant structure that is dedicated to the soldiers of the Red Army. One can also view any of the numerous historic structures such as the Cathedral and Belfry and Monument to Saint Stephen the Great of Moldova. Chisinau is one of the few cities in Moldova that has quite a bit of modern architecture as well as old.

For those interested in more modern entertainments, Chisinau is home to Moldova's largest recording labels and as a result is home to a great deal of music. Rock bands, pop groups, and even hip hop artists have begun to thrive in this great city. There are plenty of musical venues to enjoy in the streets of the city as well as cafes, restaurants, modern hotels, and luscious green parks.

Chisinau is a wonderful place for a new visitor to enjoy. The people are wonderful and always welcome to curious tourists who wish to partake in the city's pleasures.
